Not very reassuring…

News Friday 28th February 2003

“You know I could run for governor but I’m basically a media creation. I’ve never done anything. I’ve worked for my dad. I worked in the oil business. But that’s not the kind of profile you have to have to get elected to public office.” – George W. Bush, 1989

University Monday 24th February 2003

Yet another extension! This one is not really needed though, and will probably just add to the insane deadline build-up that is happening at the end of term.

Amon Tobin

Music Saturday 22nd February 2003

amontobin.jpg

It was pretty damn good, the sound system at the bongo club is bad-ass with a capital B. The warm up guys were ok but everyone was really waiting for Amon, who came on at about 12:30 and busted some nice moves. He also had some superb visuals playing on a semi-transparent screen in front of the stage, they rocked. It had this nifty effect where you’ d get the image on the screen and then it would still shine though and hit the wall behing the decks, double image-tastic. Ian is now named ‘lame Ian’, after waiting through the warm-up guys for about 2 hours he leaves after ~15 mins of Amon’s set. Oh yeah, Bongo Club certainly isn’t the classiest venue in Edinburgh, the gents is basically three toilets in a cupboard. Good stuff though.

I came back at 3am to an empty flat, so immediately cranked up the stereo and played more Amon Tobin 🙂

Go-Go Extending Deadline

University Thursday 20th February 2003

Yes, yet another deadline extension. This one was mainly because of hardware falling over under load, but we heard echos of “this happened last year and they said they’d fix it“.

*sigh*

Rock on, Ian just hooked us up with some tickets for Amon Tobin at the Bongo Club tomorrow \o/
Never been to the Bongo Club but always heard good things.
Should be fun, I will report back!

Last Night

Me Saturday 15th February 2003

Lots of fun was had last night. First off we went to Teviot Union, played some pool, drank the cheap pintage. Then headed over to tef’s place for kerazy party action. Spent about 3 hours there, drinking the ‘punch’ and chatting. Lots of people I vaguely know. Then headed over to Joe’s, got bored, Greig bitched like a ho, went home.

Woke up ~ 1:30pm.

General Update

Me Friday 14th February 2003

Hola!

Had a meal on Tuesday night at International Starters with the Waterstones escape committee. Flippin’ miles out it was, had to get a bus, a bus. I don’t normally do buses.

We also has our major project deadline exteneded by about 2 months, which is very bling bling. Mainly due to the incompetence of the lecturer, oh and “the fire”. Got more work back, got another reasonable mark, happy.

The war against mice continues, we now have three cunning steel death machines of doom (mouse traps). Although the buggers just seem to run across them, pinging the bait off and then eat the bait as it lands a safe distance away.

grrrrrr we need a cat

oh yeah, soulseek is working again
\o/

The War Against Mice : Part 1

Me Saturday 8th February 2003

So, we’ve heard scuttling and seen a few brown blurs in the kitchen and I’d had enough. I dragged out the washing machine and found a nice little mouse hole going up into the wall aha! Out comes the pollyfilla and 10 minutes later, no more hole. But then what do we find later? another of the scamps and even better, he falls in the sink! hee hee hee

‘Yay’ and ‘Oh No’

University Thursday 6th February 2003

Well, I’m not sure last nights efforts accomplished much, it still didn’t completley work. I mean, it compiled and ran, but would bork at the end of the first line. Oh yeah and to top it off, 1 1/2 hours after the deadline they extend the deadline…..just ….words escape me.

But I did get some coursework back and found I got an A for Operating Systems, so its not all bad.

Ugh

Had uber-meeting-of-doom at work last night. It was rather tense in places but somes things got sorted (and others didn’t). Then we all hit ‘teh pub’ where management bought us lots of rounds \o/

Oh yeah and my main HDD failed 🙁
I managed to salvage all the important data though and now have a minty-fresh install of XP.

Movies & TV Sunday 2nd February 2003

Watched it last night, mucho good. Afterwards realised if was by Wes Anderson who did Rushmore (which is also good). I just love the visual style of the film and the faded New York Grandeur. Soundtrack is win.

anyhoo, off to work!
